The New Jersey Couples Therapy Training Program
Admissions Information
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have, or be eligible to have, legal entitlement or licensure to practice psychotherapy in a recognized mental health profession (psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, marriage and family therapists, psychiatric nurses, pastoral counselors, and licensed professional counselors).
Applicants with an appropriate graduate degree who are not yet licensed are eligible for training if they possess a provisional license or if their clinical work is in an agency where they can practice legally. Certificates of completion will not be granted until candidates have received licensure.
Admissions Procedures
The first set of classes for the couples training program start in January 2010. Applications should be submitted by December 15, 2009.
Contact Marion Houghton, EdS, LMFT, 973-762-9130, marion427@verizon.net, or write for general information to CPPNJ/NJCTTP, Dept. of Psychology, M-AB2-01, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, NJ 07940.
Transcripts of graduate education and any prior psychoanalytic institute training will be required along with 3 letters of recommendation from people familiar with the applicant's clinical work.
Once the required documentation is received, the applicant will be asked to schedule 2 interviews with 2 different CPPNJ faculty members who, if possible, are in the applicant's geographic area. The interviewers will explore whether training in couples therapy is appropriate for the applicant and answer any questions.
The interview reports and all other documentation will be reviewed by the Director of Admissions and a decision will be made. Any questions or concerns will be discussed with the Training Committee.
